Winning Maryland Braves collect their prizes!
Monday July 30, 2007:
36 Braves representing both Maryland and Virginia,
held the second tournament of a best of three, head - to - head team matches at Tantallon C.C.
With "Virginia Indians" holding onto the 2006 "Bragging Rights" left over from
last year. The "maryland Indians" came through with a "sweep" in 2007, and now have earned
the "bragging" rights for 2007.
At the end of the early matches, Maryland got out to a 11 to 7
lead over the Virginia Braves, in a very hot 90+ degree weather.
This put the maryland Braves in good position, only needing 7 1/2 points in the
late matches to claim victory. When the scores starting coming in on the late
matches, the Virginia Braves mounted a late rally and then faded toward the end of the matches,
and fell short, as the Maryland Indians came on to win the "BIG KHUNA" by a margin
of 21 1/2 to 14 1/2 to complete the "sweep".

The first leg Towards Bragging rights for 2007
with a narrow win at Springfield!
Tuesday June 19, 2007: 16 Braves representing both Maryland and Virginia
held the first of 3, head - to - head team matches at Springfield C.C.
With "Virginia Indians" holding onto the 2006 "Bragging Rights" left over from
last year. The "maryland Indians" are now 1 up on a best of 3 series.
At the end of the early matches, Maryland got out to a 5 to 3
lead over the Virginia Braves, in a very hot 96+ degree weather.
This put the maryland Braves in good position, only needing 3 1/2 points in the
late matches to claim victory. When the scores starting coming in on the late
matches, the Virginia Braves mounted a late rally and got within 1 of tieing the match,
but fell short as the Maryland Indians held on to win the "BIG BAMM BOO" by a margin
of 9 to 7.

Monday, July 31, 2006: 36 Braves representing both Maryland and Virginia
held the first of 3, head - to - head team matches at Tantallon C.C.
With "Maryland Indians" holding onto the 2005 "Bragging Rights" left over from
last year. The "Virginia Indians" are now 1 up on a best of 3 series.
At the end of the early matches, Virginia got out to a 10 to 8
lead over the Maryland Braves, in a very hot 100+ degree weather.
This put the Virginia Braves in good position, only needing 8 1/2 points in the
late matches to claim victory. When the scores starting coming in on the late
matches, the Virginia Braves took complete charge and wholloped the hapless
Maryland Braves, as they garnered 13 1/2 points in the late matched, to win the
"BIG KHUNA" by a margin of 23 1/2 to 12 1/2.
(if it had of been a fight, the would have stopped it!.)

Chief Tonto collects wampum from the Chief for his part in the victory
Kicking Bird informs Grey Fox that he will be moving to greener pastures
soon. Kicking Bird announced to all in atendance, that he and his family
would be moving to Washington State this summer. He said that he will
greatly miss all of his brothers on the TBA Tour, and wished them all
good health and happiness in the years to come. Grey Fox expressed the
respect that we all have for him, and thanked him for his friendship and
kindness, for all these many years.
SPRINGFIELD, JUNE 21, 2005
It was a beautiful first day of summer. The course at Springfield was
groomed to perfection and awaiting for the challenge. And then they
came, the warriors of the TBA Tour. As the Braves from both Virginia
and Maryland signed in with Chief Bones, each one imagining how well
he was going to play, and win the contest for his tribe.
At precisely 11:59 Grey Fox called the meeting to order and went over
the rules of the day. Righ after the luncheon, He passed out the
pre-marked score cards for the early matches, then he passed out the
pre-marked score cards for the late matches, and the game was on!
The results were as follows:
The Braves from Maryland, "nipped" the Virginia Braves at the
"BIG BAMM BOO' match play tournament held at Springfield G&CC
on June 21, 2005. This win put the Mayland Indians 1-up for the 2005
match play events.The team that wins two out of three of these
match play events gains bragging rights for 2005.
With the Maryland Braves leading 7 1/2 to 4 1/2 after the early matches,
and only needing 5 points out of a total of 12 in the late matches
to insure victory, many of the Braves thought that it was going
to be a runaway for Maryland. And then, When the first six of the late
matches were concluded, Maryland got 4 points and Virginia got 2,
that put the Maryland Braves at 11 1/2 points and only in need of 1 more
point from the remaining six matches still undecided.
Well every Maryland Brave in the Tap Room by now were feeling pretty
good, and the Virginia Braves were feeling gloomy,with little hope, but
when the next two matches reported that Cosmo and Chief Bones came in
with 1 point each, the Virginia Braves got a little "shot in the arm"
and started feeling better, then the next two matches reported that
Fuzzy and Gipper came in with 1 point each, the Virginia Braves knew
that victory was witin their grasp. They still needed 2 more points,
and sure enough there were 2 matches still to report.
So then, In walks Dancing Bull, the room gets quiet, he reports that
he won 1 point for Virginia making, the score 11 1/2 to 11 1/2.
A Big roar goes up! Virginia's gonna do it !!!!
Finally, Big Cat enters the room and announces he won 1 point for
the Maryland Braves.
FINAL SCORE = MARYLAND 12 1/2 - VIRGINIA 11 1/5

and "Double Eagle" and "El Gringo" for Maryland
"And the're off" as "El Gringo" takes his mighty swing!
Braves Hector, Chief Bones, an Puppy Toes, try to relax in Tap Room
while waiting for the results of the matches to come in.
Chief Bones hands out "Wampum" to Brave "Vasquez" as the final
results show that Maryland wins. As other Braves look on.
Brave "Big Cat" add to his stack as he receives his share
from Chief Bones, for a job well done.

ALL INFORMATION BELOW THIS LINE IS EARLIER YEARS RESULTS
The Maryland Indian Braves narrowly defeated the Virginia warriors to
capture bragging rights for the 2004 - 2005 season as overall winners
of the "Big Finalee" held at Tantallon CC on July 21, 2004.
With Maryland leading 9 to 7 after the morning matches, all of the Braves
knew it was going right down to the wire, and they were right. At the
conclusion of the afternoon matches when the scores were being posted,
Grey Fox would call out the names of the players in each match and then
the winner of the each match was awarded the point,(with very loud ovations,)
the Virginia Braves had won 6 out of the first 7 matches,and needless to
say, there were some very worried exprssions on the faces of many Braves.
Then the Maryland Braves ran off 4 wins of their own, making it now
a virtural dead heat with only 5 matches yet to report in. Then came in
two very important players, Chief Two Dogs and Chief Bones, both with
wins for Virginia.
Then Hector and Cosmo came in and posted a halved match, awarding each
team 1/2 point, making the score at this time, Md. 14 1/2, Va. 15 1/2
with only 2 matches to go.
still out there, with his last chance to come back, Black Hawk made a par
at the difficult #13 (the eighth hole of his nine hole match,) but it was
not enough as Grey Fox closed him out for a much needed point for
the Maryland Indians.
Then a remarkable thing happened, Red Bear closed out Dusty with a nifty
up-and-down 6 to get the winning point for Maryland.

Brave, Cobra One "backs up" to paymaster to get paid! The question

Brave "Big Cat" laughs all the way to the bank as Chief Bones doles
it out.
Brave "Red Bear" gets paid for doing his part!
Brave "Double Eagle" gets paid first, then brags about his 3 tomahawks
as he salts away another pile of wampum.
Brave "Bird Dog" nuzzles up to Chief Bones hoping for a bonus to add
to his winnings he already has.

This was the "return match" after the Maryland Indians

the Maryland Indians in the "Return Match" at the beautiful Hunter's
Oak Golf Course in Wye Oak, Md. The score was Va. 13, Md. 11, thereby
setting up the "rubber" Match to be held at Tantallon CC in July,
where bragging rights will be won for one of the tribes.

The rest of the story
It was a rainy Tuesday on June 17th, as 12 Virginia Indians and 12
Maryland Indians showed up for the clash of the 2003 Big Bamm Boo.
The site was the beautiful and exclusive Springfield Golf & Country club.
There were 3 Chiefs and 21 Braves that answered roll call.
We all sat down to a wonderful buffet luncheon that the clubhouse
had prepared for us.
During lunch, Grey Fox went over the format and rules of the day, and
passsed out the already marked scorecards for both nines, and answered
questions. Then slider presented his optional "side bets sheets" for all
of the braves that had an interest.
Chief Bones collected the green fees and tournament pool from the players.
Slider collected the "side bets" from the players, and the event was set.
When the check for lunch came, Brave Cosmo, of the Virginia Braves, stepped
forward, and with appropiate words of welcome to all of his brothers,
announced that he would take care of the luncheon check.
All of the braves thanked Cosmo very much for his most generous deed.
All of the Braves then had their pictures taken on the putting green.
The "Team Maryland" Indians were all in uniform and looking great,
while "Team Virginia" Indians looked a little disorganized in their picture taking.
Then the matches began, Chief Tonto an Butter Bean were the first
to tee off, and the 2002 "Big Bamm Boo" was underway.
It was just raining lightly as the rest of the field got underway,
but as the braves were nearing the end of the front nine, the rain
was steady, but not quite the frog strangler that we would encounter later.
as the braves started tallying the scores fo the front nine,
the Virginia Indians saw big trouble, and knew that things would have
to change dramatically on the late matches, if they were to win.
The score after the front nine was (Md. 8 1/2) - (Va. 3 1/2)
By now, all of the braves knew that they needed their ball in the fairway,
"anywhere" in the fairway. The rough was as nasty as it could be, and if
you had to hit more than 50 yards out of it, it was nearly impossible.
After getting new opponents fo the back nine matches, the braves searched
their bags for anything dry to put on, some were lucky and some just
wringed out what they had and grabbed a club.
The rain was steady at the start of the back nine, then it got harder,
and harder, the braves must have been getting used to it, because
they just kept going, and going, and going.
Finnally, Vasquez and Slider ended the last match of the day, with
Vasquez eeking out a 1up victory, and "Team Maryland" were drinched in victory.
The final score was (Md. 18) - (Va. 6)
The closing ceremonies inside the clubhouse saw the Maryland Indians
receiving praise from each other as well as congratulations from the
losing but competitive Virginia Indians.
The winnings were then passed out to all of the winners,and someone
said, "wait til next time".
The return matches will be held at Tantallon C.C. in July.
the exact date has not been established yet, but will be
announced soon.(It will be for 36 players) call Grey Fox if interested.
A special thank you to Co-chairman of the event, Chief Bones,
also to Cosmo, and to Slider, and last but not least to Taco, who
even though couldn't play, helped put the event together.
